WIP :: Wild Wagoner
This semester I’m working on animating a film to go along with The Wild Wagoner, a fiddle tune by mountain man Jilson Setters. This is a collaboration with the school of music, specifically for the American Anthology Project “Reeinvisioning America”. I decided to do a sort of caricatured biography on Jilson for my story… here are some screencaps of the film so far, which will be playing at CalArts around the 8th of December ๐

Motion Track Handicam Effect for Animation
Sometimes animated films can feel a little too “animationey” in their cinematography, with perfectly smooth camera moves and still holds. With the magic of After Effects and a 24fps handheld video cam (if your cell phone can handle it, go for it), you can make still shots feel like they were shot on a handicam.
The Evolution of a Coat Hanger
Here’s my 49 hour film for the 48-hour lockdown in Character @ CalArts, 2010!

Pineapple City & the Curious Contraption
In the event that I couldn’t complete Who Do Voodoo on time, I wanted to do a little stop-motion backup film. So I ended up with two films in the Open Show this year!
Shot with a Canon Powershot and a limited amount of Play-Doh that wanted to have its own way! (At least the light and Curious Contraption behaved).
Who Do Voodoo
4 months and 23 days’ worth of work later, I present to you my BFA-2 film ๐

It is FINISHED!

Well, the animation part, that is. I’ll show y’all what a human being is capable of doing in 18 days when it comes to COLORING! (to be fair, 18 scenes are already completed).

47 scenes! WHOOO!
Countdown, Round 2
As of this moment, there are exactly 51162 minutes left until films are due!
That’s merely 35 days!
AAAAAaaAAAAaAAAAHHH!H!hh1H!!1!!!oneone!1!!
This time last year I was much further along– then again, I didn’t have an extra minute worth of animation, either! I’d say that this time around, I’ve completed more by this time than I had at this time last year. I have all but 4 scenes animated; all dialogue’s recorded, all the frames are cleaned up and I’m currently in the process of timing them out and figuring out the compositing. After this comes a smattering of coloring and layouts! eek! I have good faith that I can get it all done– under one condition: That I don’t sleep!
May the caffeine commence!
