This is a zoetrope I made for the CalArts Re-Envisioning America show 2012. I had the idea of getting more mileage out of zoetrope animation by controlling the images by turning on and off different colored lights. In this one (hopefully the first of several), red, green and blue lights turn on and off to reveal three different images.
It’s a little floppy, it’s not perfect– but it was a pretty successful learning experience!
Powering everything is an Arduino Uno, Ardumoto shield, motor, and a BlinkM MaxM light. Animations were done in TVPaint.

CAT Purrogress, pt. 2
Now with IRs and an LCD! Got a bit of a ways to go but it’s coming along swiftly!
CAT Purrogress, pt. 1
CAT’s motor purrs when the petting sensor is being pet, and it meows back (in the Serial Monitor) when it hears you meowing at it!
C.A.T
C.A.T., or Cuddly Arduinic Therapist, is my project in Interface for Music & Media class.
What the– you’re building a cat?
Yes, an Arduino-powered one at that! One that won’t cause allergies or disgust its owner with hairballs. Petting CAT will make it react positively, purring at 50Hz (a healing frequency), giving the same benefit as a real animal. This is achieved through conductive thread/fabric and a vibrating motor. Many more surprises are to come; new Arduino shields and other fun parts will be in my mailbox soon! I’ll get some video up during the week, along with a few design/layout paintings too 🙂
Power-Up!
There’s noticeably been long spans of time between recent posts– not on my behalf of being lazy! The blame’s on my old computer (circa mid-2000’s), which is too lazy to boot up these days.
Not for much longer!
Let’s play a game: which part of this picture makes me excited?
VERY GOOD! D. All of the Above!
Let’s cross our fingers that nothing’s DOA and the shiny quad-core can keep up with me 😀
Keyboard & a Geeky Goal
So it would appear that my keyboard, after doing much battle with my fingertips, seemingly broke out in mini-battles amongst its inhabitants, the keys.
Tech Review: WD Portable HDD
Slightly smaller and slightly heavier than a Moleskin, this little hard drive (Western Digital’s Passport Essential) has been the handiest porta-memory that I’ve ever encountered.
RIP CLIE
So this morning I finished up a call on my cell and my Clie PDA starts clicking. And flashing the logo. And the power button wouldn’t go off– I tried EVERYTHING buuuuuuut a hard reset is what it took, and now it flickers on for a moment and….. dies.
