Hellllooooooo for the first time in what, almost a MONTH!??!! So sorry for the major lack in bloggage– I’ve been so incredibly busy here at CalArts that I haven’t had a moment to sit down, breathe, and pound out any blogs of the adventures, life drawings, and animations that by the time I’m finally through with my projects… classes start right up and I’m back to work again!
Anyway, had it not been for my dad wondering about my latest assignment in my Color and Design class, you wouldn’t be reading this now… well you ARE reading this now, but assuming you read it the very moment of my posting it– well, before I start rambling, scanning these in was a great excuse to finally blog ๐
This week’s assignment was to take color swatches we had painted from slices of fruit (where we painted every color we perceived in, say, an apple) and spend half an hour painting a self portrait based off of the complete color swatch set from one fruit. We were only allowed to use the complimentary color of whatever we were painting with in order to darken our values.
I believe that first portrait up there was based off of a red potato…
…Or maybe that was the red potato?
Dragon fruit! (Some crazy $8 thing imported from a far-away land…)
hmmm… Cucumber? Not sure…
And finally, lemon. (With lots of purple thrown in, as per obvious!)
I didn’t bother to do pre-sketches for any of these studies. Since they’re more learning to work with the colors and a designated palette, I didn’t focus on the form as much as I did messing around with the values, so I freely slapped on paint (splattered more than slapped, rather) and made adjustments as I went along.
Next I’ll have to upload my animations and life drawings. But first, I’ll have to finish my perspective and Story homework before I let myself get lost in the world of blogging any more ๐
Tahnee! Woohoo you finished your Hobaica already!!! Great Job! And yes I do come to your blog to check if you updated! So keep updating ๐
