My name’s Tahnee Gehm and I am an artist.

All my life I’ve had a passion for drawing and creating. Animation has been a curiosity of mine, and making something spring to life from lifeless sheets of paper (or lifeless bits of electronic information) is more satisfactory than finishing an enormous painting or drawing project.

But, that isn’t to say that I don’t enjoy drawing!

I am currently a student at the California Institute of the Arts, better known as CalArts– enrolled in the Character Animation program, planning to graduate in May 2012. I was so pleased that my first-year film,  VALUE BLiND, was accepted into the annual Character Animation Producers’ Show! I hope to create more unusual animated films (animated traditionally, that’s right– pencil and pape)! My eventual goal at this point is to open up a design and animation studio local to LA, perhaps doing work for commercials or making short animated films as appetizers to feature films.

When not animating, I enjoy seeking unique forms of artmaking, such as jewelry and buttons.

I have experience with designing T-shirts and have illustrated a children’s book.

Along with drawing all the strange things that come to mind (as you can see from the drawings on this blog), I am also a webdesigner and a musician.

I started playing violin when I was six and piano when I was eight. I recently took a Computer Music class where I learned how to use synthesizers. While it’s a lot of fun and I know I could probably get somewhere with it if I pursued it further, Shoveling out $3,000 for a synthesizer is probably going to put me behind more than forward at this point!

On the subject of music, I have a strange brain phenomenon known as synesthesia. I “see” sounds, touch, smells, etc in my mind. Also, my letters and numbers all have their own colors and personalities. Some day I would like to make a music video animating exactly what goes on in my head with all of the colorful abstract shapes, patterns and textures that synesthesia involves!

I’ve been designing websites ever since middle school; my first website was tahnee.com, which is an accumulation of random stuff that I put together over quite a long period of time. It also is home to hundreds of Tahnees, who can share their info and photos on the website.

You’re at my most current website– tahnee.org. I figured I would put together a website for my artwork and creative endeavors. (I was quite proud of its redesign in August ‘06 :) )

This blog is to update whoever’s interested in my art on my latest sketchbook drawings or WIP’s or whatever is artistically new in my world. Enjoy! :D
