LOOK AT WHAT CAME IN THE MAIL TODAY!!!!!

Let’s get a closer look at THAT….

YAAAY!! And when I was at the post office and saw that colorful package, covered in CalArts motifs, I had to scan the whole thing (even though it had a first-class sticker) to find that one wonderful lengthy C-word. And then I threw an absolute spazz attack and started jumping around and yelling stuff like “I GOT IN!! I GOT INTO CAL ARTS!! AAAH!!!” This unusual behavior got me more strange looks than I’d ever received my entire life– and I had to explain all my hysterical laughing and yelling to a lady with a box across from mine.

There’s the goods, including an invitation to meet other students and freshies and instructors, a magazine, and the glorious colored package that it all came in.

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

(And I remember seeing all those cut-outs in the animation gallery when I visited… back in November when I dropped everything off, I think… It took them exactly 4 months, minus a day, to inform me of my acceptance). (I applied November 16th… so minus 5 days.)

Kinda weird that it’s the same day my locker was broken into, isn’t it?

PS To CalArts, if anyone there is reading this… THANK YOU!!!!!

  1. WOOHOO! That’s so awesome, a congrats sticker on the package – all you need to know really! I wonder if those that don’t make it in get a really drab gray package… BUT WHO CARES! YOU’RE IN CALARTS!!!

  2. more like a white letter, I think.. the more color & decorations = more excitement and acceptance likeliness! πŸ˜€

  3. Ms. Tahnee, I knew you would make it in!!! I only hope you will come back to Palomar to talk to us little people when you are a big time Calarts grad.

  4. Yeah Tahnee! You deserve it!!!! We’ll miss you here, and you’ll have t come vist and show your progress. Can’t wait to see how much you’ll learn!

  5. Hey, I really want to go to CalArts and was wondering if you could tell me about their film dept/ how you like the school. I’m taking a tour soon and can’t wait to see it. What did you submit for your portfolio? Sorry I have so many questions… I just really want to get in!! Any advice?

  6. Hi Jess!
CalArts is amazing! It really depends on what you want to accomplish while you’re here– if you work hard you’ll be happy with your progress. It’s amazing to be around so many other animators, able to soak in their techniques and share yours as well. I’m also into music and there are hardly any boundaries among the departments, so you can take whatever classes in the Institute that you want (which is super cool!) I have my acceptance portfolio and sketchbook online:

Show that you’re a hard worker and you’re not afraid to try new stuff. Do your own thing, and explore stories and characters! Good luck!

  7. Thanks so much for your advice! I loved it when I toured so i realllllllyyyyyyy hope I get in !!!

What year are you now? Your submissions were awesome! I’m so impressed with all of your work!

I’m a 3rd year now, working hard on lotsa varied projects πŸ˜€ Best of luck, take a buncha general ed classes (including a basic English/writing class) at a community college (or transfer over lotsa AP credits) so you don’t have to worry about Critical Studies as much πŸ™‚

  9. Hi Tahnee! I’ve been a huge fan of your art since forever lol. You’ve been my inspiration to pursue my dream at CalArts πŸ™‚ What was CalArts like actually? What’s a typical day there like? πŸ™‚ And also, could you give me some tips on my artist statement please? πŸ™‚

And oh, I hope you’ll get to open up that studio in LA you’ve dreamed of πŸ˜€
